It is assumed that the reader has previous knowledge on a conceptual modeling language as well as on relational databases.
This book is thought as a tool to make easy to follow a specific course on database design and administration. The objectives are to be able to obtain a relational schema from a conceptual one, discussing the problems and alternatives found. Difficulties and limitations on implementing these schemas on a typical Database Management System (DBMS) are analyzed.
Finally, the characteristics of a good physic design of relational databases are analyzed, besides most frequent optimization and tuning parameters.
